Forgiveness

I am not sure why it took me so long to start a blog. I guess it is because I never thought I had anything worth sharing. I know better now and if can inspire at least one person with this blog, then I will be happy.

For my first post I struggled with a topic for awhile and then it hit me like a bus. Forgiveness. I am struggling with this right now and it makes perfect sense. Forgiveness is hard. I mean really hard. I have problems with it because I tend to justify my un-forgiveness my using pain as my excuse. Lord, if I can just stay angry then the pain will feel less intense and I can deal. But anger only keeps the wound open and bleeding. Forgiveness is the spiritual neosporin for any situation. Yes, ANY situation. I know some of you are thinking – ummm you have no idea what I have been through, and some people do not deserve to be forgiven. Wrong. We don’t deserve to be forgiven. But we are over and over and over again. I am not a stranger to asking God for forgiveness. But thats the thing, no matter what we do as long as we ask he forgives no questions asked no strings attatched. So it kind of goes without saying that he expects us to forgive those around us with that same kind of love in our hearts. Is it easy? No. Not at all. But thats the beautiful thing about it. Giving love and forgiveness freely to those who do not deserve it frees your soul. It makes your heart soar and your faith grow. God uses the ugliest scenes in our life to do the most beautiful things. I am not saying that you have to do it immediately after it happens. Sometimes, that does not seem possible. I will be honest and say that right now, I am not there. But the Lord is working on my heart and I know I will get there soon. How can we expect him to forgive us when we can’t forgive others? If you are struggling with this as I am then I pray that the Lord will soften your heart and begin to steer you in that direction. You will be amazed at the things it does for you spiritually. Okay here are some bible verses to meditate on and use in prayer.

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matthew 6:14

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Luke 6:37-38 (I love this one)

Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people. but love your neighbor as yourself. Leviticus 19:18

You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call you. Hear my prayer, Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me. Psalm 86:5-7

One last thing – Music is something that really speaks to me. I will try to post a song with each post that relates. I encourage you to check it out. Listen to it – Sing it in the shower – Apply it to your life (Click)

God Bless,

Jess
